New produce labelling rules take effect in January
The Department of Agriculture published the final rule last week. It applies to every member store selling loose produce by weight, and it takes effect January 1.
What has to change
- Country-of-origin signage at the point of display, not the register
- Scale-printed labels must carry the lot code
- Records retained for ninety days
